SA Fashion Week Competitions are not only about winning the prizes. They play a key role in motivating students to develop their ideas and skills. It gives them a chance to gain substantial experience and the opportunity to analyse and evaluate the outcomes and uncover personal aptitude. It assists talented designers, with the potential for commercial growth, to start making the transition from a developing creative to a sustainable business.

In celebration of its official coming of age, South African Fashion Week (SAFW) has announced that its Autumn/Winter 2019’s schedule will take on a particularly festive tone as it looks back over 21 years of fostering the development of a vibrant local designer culture.

SA Fashion Week’s competitions are an undeniable springboard for young designers. The aim of SA Fashion Week competitions is to assist talented designers, with the potential for commercial growth, to start making the transition from a developing creative business to a sustainable business that can play a role in the Creative Fashion Industry, create jobs, wealth and contribute to the GDP of the country.

The South African designers who have been awarded the SAFW Cape Wool SA prize are Carina Louw and Natasha Jaume of Erre for ladies wear, and Keith Henning and Jody Paulsen of AKJP for menswear. Erre and AKJP will take the mantle from 2017 winners, Jacques van der Watt of Black Coffee and Ephraim Molingoana of Ephymol.

Cape Wools SA, in partnership with SA Fashion Week, announced the opening of the 2018 Cape Wools SA Designer Challenge. This is the second year that top South African designers will compete.

This year marks the 4th annual SA Fashion Week Menswear Pop Up. Once again, Brooklyn Mall, situated in one of Pretoria’s most affluent suburbs is opening their doors for the top menswear labels in South Africa. For three days only, fashion lovers will be able to buy incredible fashion directly from the top designers. They will be able to connect, interact and walk away with exclusive, one of a kind items that are not available in stores.

The country’s capital of chic, Sandton City, will become a runway of top local design when SA Fashion Week (SAFW) launches the Spring/Summer 18 season of sixty-six exciting signature collections from 10 April 2018.

Celebrating 21 years as the country’s premium fashion platform, it is a glorious celebration of South African design, turning up the volume with new partnerships, new talent and once again, to throw a spotlight on the remarkable diversity and innovative capacity of our fashion designers.
