ABOUT

Thato Matabane is the founder and creative director of Afrikanswiss. He started his first label, Kapha, in 2006, which later evolved into Afrikanswiss. Afrikanswiss was one of the first local, high-end denim brands. Matabane has collaborated with various top brands such as Loxion Kulca and House of Olé. In 2013, he began working on his label Afrikanswiss. He honours his great-grandmother - originally from Botswana with a Khoisan heritage - whom he regards as his Angel of Design and Business.

Thato's AW25 Collection is a blend of her experiences as a designer in Sophiatown, infused with Khoisan influence from her lineage. "This marks our tenth year in business and a fresh leap into what I have always envisioned for the brand, embracing it with a full understanding of who I am and where I come from." Says Thato.
